If you hold a current Alberta Standard First Aid certificate, this Alberta Standard First Aid Recertification pre-study program can help prepare you to challenge the theory and practical skills required to receive a new Standard First Aid certificate in Alberta.

At the end of the program, you must pass a written theory exam and complete all of the practical skills to a competent level. If you do not pass the theory exam or practical skills, you will have to complete a full Alberta standard first aid course.

IMPORTANT: If your first aid certificate has expired, even by one day, your are ineligible to participate in the recertification process.

This Alberta Standard First Aid Recertification course covers the information and skills required to respond to an injury or a medical emergency either on or off of the job. Full first aid recertification is achieved once both the theory and in-class practical training sessions are successfully completed.

Course Duration

Total course training time is approximately 4-6 hours which includes both the pre-course study program and the in-class training session.



Testing conducted throughout the pre-course study package is designed to reinforce the information presented. A mark of 80% must be achieved to advance to the in-class portion of this course. Additionally, the successful completion of an in-class practicum assessment and exam are required to receive First Aid Recertification.


Certificate of Completion

Upon successful completion of the pre-course study of the course, a Proof of Completion certificate will be available for download and printing. This certificate must be presented to the in-class training instructor in order to participate in the practicum.

Full first aid recertification is achieved once the learner has successfully completed both the theory and skills portions of the training including the written final exam.
